Benefits
of antioxidants
Oxidation is a natural
process that can cause damage to cells and may contribute to aging. However,
taking antioxidants are an excellent way to avert oxidation, and may help
increase immune function and perhaps even decrease risk of infection and
cancer. Antioxidants exist as vitamins, minerals and other compounds in foods.
Antioxidants
include carotenoids, present in fruits and vegetables, such as, apricots,
broccoli, pumpkin, cantaloupes, spinach and sweet potatoes. Another antioxidant
is lycopene, found in tomatoes. Vitamin C and E are also good antioxidants, as
well as, magnesium, copper and zinc.
