Cancer…reduce your risk

Each year nearly a million Americans are diagnosed with some form of cancer. Here are a few simple tips to reduce your odds of becoming one of those million.

·         Avoid tobacco – Cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco are all just as bad. Tobacco products can cause cancer in the Lungs, esophagus, voice box (larynx), mouth, bladder, kidney, and pancreas.

·         Eat Healthy – Leafy green vegetables can reduce your risk of colon and stomach cancer. Fruits and grains are also good. Avoid high fat foods and only consume moderate amounts of alcohol.

·         Keep In Shape - Obesity puts you at risk for prostate, colon and rectum cancer.

·         Sun Protection – Skin cancer is a very common form of cancer, as well as one of the most avoidable ones. Cover exposed areas of the skin, use plenty of sunscreen, wear a hat and sunglasses, and avoid peak sun hours and tanning salons.

·         Cancer Screening – Regular check-ups are important for early detection. Also, regular self-examination is also a good idea to check for any changes in skin color, moles, etc.
