Muscle cramps can ruin the perfect
workout, sideline a long distance runner, or even interrupt a good night’s
sleep. With summertime approaching, more people will be outdoors exercising and
engaging in physical activities. To enjoy cramp free activities, follow these
simple tips:
The cause of muscle cramps can be
anything from overly high-heeled shoes to lack of sodium.
To prevent cramps, follow these
two tips:

Drink a lot of water – 64 ounces a day is
recommended. Exercise and extreme heat may necessitate drinking even more than
the recommended minimum. Drinking enough water to keep hydrated can prevent
muscle cramps.

Consume enough sodium – Although most people probably
don’t suffer from a lack of sodium, it could lead to muscle cramps.

Other factors that can contribute to muscle cramps
include potassium and calcium losses. Try consuming foods such as banana,
potatoes, spinach and low-fat dairy products to help
ward off cramps.
